NWT Health Authority Primary Care Consolidation: System Disfunction = Client Failure

The consolidation and move of the various Care Clinics to the “Old Stanton Hospital” was designed to provide a single point of service, making it more efficient for patients to effectively receive the necessary treatment from their primary health care provider.

During the initial transition period and the initial month(s) of the consolidation of services, it is clear that the “leadership” mapping out the process and implementation were either ignorant of the need for contingencies or lacked the knowledge of planning and response. The leadership remain committed to the command and control of the process. In simple terms: they lack the leadership skills, administrative management, contingency planning acumen to address the consolidation of the Care Clinics int a single point of service.

The system is slowly moving toward a more “normal” sense of administrative function. After all the trials and tribulations, those “leaders” directing operations might consider why people get frustrated and angry at the initial point of contact with the system.

While you expect patients to ensure a “respectful and harassment free environment”, the very system is designed to disrespect patient’s needs for their time, harass patients through the frustrating administrative loopholes & obstacles for service, and then expect the front line care givers to assume the full impact of the failure of the system.

NWT Heath Authority leadership is a filled with client failure and creates a system where front line care givers receive the burden of patient frustrations of failing of system.

In any other system of change, leaders recognize the need to conduct suitable testing and/or establish a redundancy system of technology to ensure the smoothest possible transition. The consolidation and move to the “Old Stanton Hospital” was achieved on a whim, a wish, or a hope. Maybe it was designed to be an obstacle, a quagmire, or some other form of chaos while those on the front line worked through the system to create efficiencies.
